CRITICAL REVIEW ON DIAGNOSTIC APPROACHES FOR COVID- 19
Abstract
The current outbreak of the coronavirus disease known as COVID-19 is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2). The virus SARS-CoV-2 was discovered in December 2019, subsequently spreading through China and beyond to cause a global pandemic. It is important to understand the pathophysiology of this disease to facilitate the search for effective therapies. This demands an in depth review of the current literature, due to improved diagnosis and detection being essential tools for health and government organisations to firstly, control the disease, secondly, guide society’s actions and thirdly, to predict patient outcomes. The aim of this paper is therefore to review the literature focussing on differing features of COVID-19 pathologies, in order to identify potential diagnostic approaches and prognosis.
