While many studies have focused on behavioural determinants of adolescent sleep, there is limited research examining the impact of multiple family factors. The current study investigates the relationship between adolescent sleep quality and family factors, controlling for gender, socioeconomic status, social media use and grade level. Utilizing data from the Net4Health project, the research analysed a sample of 1,406 students from five secondary schools in Glasgow, in S2 and S4 grade level. A cross-sectional design was employed, measuring overall sleep quality, family disagreements, parent-child relations, house rules, and family activity. Five models were constructed to explore the effects of different sets of variables on sleep quality. The study found that the quality of parent and child relationship and family disagreement were associated with adolescent sleep quality. However, this study also revealed some interesting findings that need further exploration, such as the discrepancy between the bivariate and multivariate analyses for family activity and house rules. These findings indicate that the relationship between family factors and sleep quality is complex and dynamic and may depend on various factors and contexts.
