Background: The rapid increase in smartphone usage among the youth necessitates an awareness of its effects on sleep quality, particularly in Saudi Arabia. This systematic review aims to bring together existing research on the impact of smartphone usage on sleep quality among Saudi Arabian adolescents, investigating the prevalence of smartphone addiction and its association with sleep disturbances. Methods: Six studies, focusing on various demographics across Saudi Arabia, were reviewed comprehensively from 2018 to 2023. The literature for this review was collected by searching three reputable databases, including Medline, Scopus, and APA PsycINFO on June 29, 2024. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) Results: The analysis found a strong link between smartphone addiction and poor sleep among youth. Late-night and frequent smartphone use increased sleep delay and lowered efficiency. Smartphone addiction rates were greater in women and those living alone. Conclusion: Smartphone addiction is widespread among Saudi Arabian adolescents and negatively impacts their sleep quality. Strategic measures designed to educate and regulate smartphone usage may enhance sleep health among this at-risk demographic.
