THE IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC ON THE HIGHER EDUCATION SECTOR INTERNATIONALISATION
Abstract
Higher education internationalisation suffered setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, putting a halt to many aspects, including student mobility, physical learning, and disruption of research and teaching. This research explores the pandemic impacts on higher education internationalisation in the global frameworks through a critical review of the available literature. The research design is embedded in the systematic review of the published books, articles, and reports on the variables, including relevant theoretical frameworks on this subject. A range of secondary data is collected and classified based on themes to highlight the impacts of the coronavirus on the internationalisation of higher education from institutional, national, regional, and global perspectives. Some of the themes included the disruption of physical learning and teaching, the emergence of digital solutions and virtual environments for innovative continuity, and the setting of satellite campuses to enhance virtual student mobility. The study recommends increased partnerships among institutions to improve virtual learning through collaborative strategies to meet global learning needs.
