Abstract This research aims to investigate teachers’ perspectives on using augmented reality (AR) in the classroom and, specifically, its impact on student engagement and student motivation, and to discuss the challenges teachers face when implementing this technology in the education domain. This research used a mixed methodology, which involved a quantitative questionnaire and qualitative semi-structured interviews with teachers who are currently using AR technology in the classroom. The findings of this research showed that AR in learning can promote motivation and engagement and, while there were some challenges that teachers faced, the motivation and engagement of students mitigated most of these difficulties. Keywords: Augmented reality; AR; Student motivation; Student engagement; Challenges faced by teachers.
