Abstract
This thesis investigates the synthesis and use of Lewis acidic compounds derived from the main-group element boron and their role in catalysis. Furthermore, the investigation will explore how these compounds can enhance and modify existing reactions. The first chapter provides a thorough introduction to the thesis's main themes. It delves deeply into Lewis acidity, providing a thorough understanding of the general applications of Lewis acids as well as the various methodologies used to determine their Lewis acidity. It also focuses on catalysis, particularly the use of boron-based catalysts in hydroboration transformations. The second and third chapters are concerned with the synthesis of boron-based Lewis acids, specifically compounds of the form BAr3 and B(OR)3, as well as the detailed discussion of their respective Lewis acidities. The emphasis in chapter four shifts to the use of these Lewis acidic compounds as catalysts in the hydroboration reaction.
