A comparative study between the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia: on the legality of euthanasia and assisted suicide.

Abstract

There has long been controversy over end-of-life decisions from a medical, legal, and moral point of view, particularly euthanasia or assisted suicide. This dissertation compares how the legal systems in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia dealt with euthanasia and assisted suicide and identify and analyses the similarities and differences between them. It compares the two legal systems upon a brief understanding of how legal systems work and on which basis they prohibited euthanasia. The comparison showed that the two countries are the same in the banning of euthanasia and assisted suicide. However, they differ in a few matters, such as the reasons behind the prohibition, religion's role, and the possibility of legal reforms. This dissertation concludes that both countries agree on the prohibition and differ in the manner of it.
