The current study focused on investigating the perceptions of Saudi residents on the impact of tourism development on the construction industry. The social exchange theory provided the theoretical framework for the study. A qualitative approach was employed in the study, with a sample of 46 residents in Riyadh selected to participate. A comprehensive questionnaire was administered to collect data on their perceptions. The results show that the perceptions of Saudi residents are mixed and are based on the benefits and costs that residents associate with tourism development and the construction industry. The results confirm the propositions of the social exchange theory that behavior is a function of perceived benefits. The study has implications for the Saudi government and other players in the tourism industry.
