The Clarity of Censorship Regulations in Saudi Arabia and how it applies to Cinema Industry

Abstract

Saudi Arabia has remained strict in terms of the censorship of films despite making some changes in the law regarding censorship. In this research, the focus is on the topic of censorship in Saudi Arabia, analyzing its processes and the clarity of censorship regulations, and how it applies. Discussing the views of the people associated with the industry at the moment. A major section falls under censorship that requires some scenes of films to be cut to meet the expectations of the culture of the country. Moreover, any content that shows violence or romance should be censored from international films. Hence, it is expected that the government is both transparent and clear in the process in order that movie providers are able to understand the restrictions and red lines. Therefore, it is evident that although the government has become more lenient, they have exercised censorship to make films match the norms of Saudi society.
