Abstract

Renewable energy targets have emerged as a vital defining attribute of the global energy landscape. These targets involve the adoption of renewable energy sources to cut greenhouse gas emissions at a global level. Several countries worldwide have adopted at least one renewable energy source to achieve their targets to reach zero emissions globally. Several countries worldwide have adopted various targets and set timelines for their achievement. However, the renewable energy industry is focusing on using new and appropriate RE technologies – this under exploration often presents unprecedented challenges in the implementation of RE projects. As a result, countries such as the UK have missed their targets. This study explores the significance of supply chain management (SCM) on the achievement of RE targets using past practices. Such knowledge is crucial to develop a plan for Saudi Arabia, one of the largest global emitters, to adopt and successfully achieve it is RE targets as planned. As such, this research provides a focused review of literature in RE SCM and suggests possible future directions.
