Arabic Diglossia and Teaching Standard Arabic To L2 learners of Arabic in Saudi Universities: Impacts on L2 Communication With Saudi Society

Abstract

This work examines the effects of teaching standard Arabic to L2 learners of Arabic and Arabic diglossia factors on communication between native speakers and second language students of Arabic. Two separate questionnaires were designed and published in two groups. The first group was for native speakers of Arabic in Saudi Arabia, and the other is L2 learners of Arabic in Saudi universities. Results concluded that there is an impact on L2 communication with Saudi society lies in the gap in the form of Arabic language used between native speakers and L2. As the competence of native speakers of the SA is considered to be somewhat neglected or not used in communication and they depend on communicating in the local dialect, while L2 speak only SA
