dc.description.abstractEndophytic fungi derived from marine seaweeds have been acknowledged as a valuable source of secondary active metabolites that have potential medicinal applications, including their potential use in anticancer, antibacterial, antioxidant and antiviral treatments. In this review, the different analytical techniques used for identification and structural characterization of the bioactive secondary metabolites from endophytic fungi derived from seaweed are evaluated. NMR spectroscopy, GC-MS and LC-MS are the predominant metabolomics-based techniques used in marine studies, and each technique has its advantages and limitations. GC- and LC-MS are the more common analytical techniques that have been used for more than 80% of metabolomics studies. General coverage of the isolation and cultivation of endophytic fungi and their potential biological activities are also included in this paper. Finally, this review aims to briefly deliberate the promising future of marine natural products. This critical review covered literature published from 2010 to 2020.
