Investigate BIM Application in Construction Industry of Saudi Arabia MOJAHED ALSALEH
Abstract
Basically, a technology-based concept, the Building Information Model (BIM) can
provide timely and reliable communication between project stakeholders at all stages of the
process. By solving problems related to calculations, planning and design coordination, it
can have a significant impact on Saudi Arabia's construction industry. The advantages of
implementing BIM include visual coordination of building systems (e.g. mechanical, electrical
and plumbing systems) and identification of collisions between these systems. If you find a
crash, you can fix the problem before the actual construction begins and save project time
and money. One of the objectives of this study is to study the barriers to BIM adoption and
strategies for further implementation of BIM in Saudi Arabia. Secondary data was collected
using an interview method selected by five project managers. However, the lack of
understanding of the BIM application process, the lack of regulatory support for current real-
world changes, the lack of standards of practice, guidelines, and non-critical elements
created several hurdles for policy makers and governments.
