Abstract
the benefits of alternative tourism for sustainable development, using a case study approach focused on Rhodes Island. The methodology employed involves the analysis of secondary data sourced from 12 scholarly articles obtained from online academic databases. The results of the analysis highlight a number of benefits derived from alternative tourism practices. i)alternative tourism is found promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. ii) Economically, alternative tourism emerges as a catalyst for diversification. iii) Environmental conservation is identified as another significant benefit of alternative tourism. iv)Community engagement and empowerment are another benefit associated with alternative tourism. In light of these findings, the study recommends that tourist destinations, including Rhodes Island, actively embrace alternative tourism as a strategy for sustainable development. This research contributes valuable insights to the ongoing discussion on sustainable tourism development, providing a foundation for future initiatives in alternative tourism.
