Abstract
The rapid advancement of technology in Saudi Arabia has given rise to significant privacy
concerns among its citizens. However, it remains unclear how Saudi culture, in conjunction
with factors such as gender and age, influences individuals' experiences of privacy. The
existing body of research has not established a definitive connection between these variables
within the Saudi Arabian context. In response, this study delves into the intricate interplay of
gender, age, and culture in shaping individuals' perceptions of privacy in Saudi Arabia.
Through a qualitative approach involving in-depth interviews with a sample of N=20
participants from Saudi Arabia, we explore dimensions including perceptions, feelings,
concerns, protective behaviors, cultural practices, and awareness of privacy regulations. Our
findings underscore the pronounced impact of both gender and age on privacy encounters
within the Saudi Arabian population. Additionally, our study reveals noteworthy insights into
privacy-related cultural practices, where privacy is intricately woven into an Islamic
framework and is notably influenced by gender and age dynamics. Furthermore, we uncover
varying levels of familiarity with privacy policies and laws. By shedding light on the intricate
connections between gender, age, culture, and privacy experiences, our research significantly
enriches the broader comprehension of privacy phenomena. This study culminates in a
comprehensive analysis of our findings, accompanied by pertinent recommendations.
