To investigate alcohol toxicity, NRK-52E cells (isolated from a Rattus norvegicus kidney) were used. In order to measure cell viability, MTT was used to assess mitochondrial respiration. In the first experiments, the results demonstrated that alcohol (ethanol) at higher concentrations (3%; 10%) was toxic, and this toxicity was affected by the duration of exposure (24 h; 48 h).
