Abstract

In industry, performing vibration-based condition monitoring (VCM) for rotating machinery can be challenging. Thus, this study is constructed to develop smart modal parameters for fault diagnosis techniques where useful vibration information can be extracted to self-diagnosis the machine without maintenance expertise involvement. The uses of simple spectrum in vibration-based fault diagnosis can be complex especially for rotating equipment. The time domain and frequency domain fault diagnosis techniques are used to evaluate their effectiveness in the vibration fault diagnosis. Time domain technique showed that it is hardly able to present a reliable vibration fault diagnosis and frequency domain showed some good result but not good enough for a high reliable and effective fault diagnosis. Observation made in this study that combination of time and frequency domain parameters for vibration fault diagnosis shows better results compared to the time and frequency domain in their own. A 1X/2X Vs RMS proposed method presented good separation between different conditions.
