Abstract

This study investigates the impact of climate variability on rainfall patterns in the Dyfi catchment area using high-resolution radar data and advanced statistical techniques. The principal objective is to determine the most suitable probability distribution model for forecasting rainfall, providing valuable insights for flood risk management and water resource planning. The application of the three-parameter lognormal distribution has been shown to result in a strong correlation between localised rainfall data and improved predictive accuracy, particularly in regions characterised by complex topography. The findings of this study represent a significant contribution to the field of hydrology, emphasising the critical role of regional data in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. These insights have practical implications for the enhancement of flood forecasting models and the optimisation of resource management strategies.
