Abstract

This study identifies school counsellors’ attitudes towards the national family safety program in Saudi Arabia. The program was introduced to address child abuse and ensure a healthy upbringing for Saudi youth through schools, specifically school counsellors. However, the school counsellors’ perspective on the national family safety program is insufficiently explored. This study investigates the counsellors’ role in implementing the programs’ regulations within schools and discovering counsellors’ views on how the program services might be improved. A questionnaire was designed and distributed via an online survey to 123 female school counsellors from several regions around Saudi Arabia to achieve these objectives. The results showed that school counsellors in Saudi Arabia do have a generally positive attitude towards the National Family Safety program; however, they expressed their dissatisfaction about lack of communication and training. These results suggest a potentially successful collaboration for the national family safety program and Saudi schools if more effective communication with Saudi school counsellors was implemented.
