This study explores how nurses can enhance perioperative care to improve patient recovery experiences in day-surgery settings. The objectives of the study were to conduct a systematized literature search for primary research on patients’ experiences during day-surgery recovery, critically evaluate and discuss selected studies, and identify implications for nursing practice while highlighting potential research gaps. A qualitative research approach was adopted, focusing on six selected studies that examined patients' postoperative experiences in various day-surgery contexts. The selected studies employed phenomenographic and semi-structured interview methods to gather in-depth insights into patients' recovery experiences. The thematic analysis was conducted across the studies, identifying common themes such as pain management, emotional support, communication, and patient autonomy. The results revealed that effective pain management, emotional and psychological support, clear communication, and empowerment of patient autonomy are essential components of optimal perioperative care. These findings suggest that personalized, patient-centered nursing interventions can significantly improve recovery outcomes in day-surgery patients. The study concludes with recommendations for enhancing perioperative nursing practice, emphasizing the need for continuous research and development of innovative care strategies.
