Abstract
Abstract:
This systematic review aims to explore the experiences of nurses involved in cardiac or respiratory arrest incidents, focusing on factors influencing their performance, teamwork dynamics, and challenges in life-threatening situations. The objectives include analyzing challenges nurses face during these events, assessing inter-professional communication, and evaluating the effectiveness of resources and training provided to nurses. Five qualitative research papers were reviewed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) to ensure rigorous analysis. The findings reveal the need to champion the nurses, support collaboration, and integrate effective stress prevention measures for better care during cardiac and respiratory arrest. Some of the factors that would help in the success of the resuscitation includes flexibility in roles, organizational preparedness, and resource utility. The review focuses on the areas of training for the nurse, role development and mental health as areas that can be enhanced to achieve positive patient outcomes. Recommendations are as follows allowing the nurses to lead during codes, providing team education about simulation with both task and team performance focuses, and promoting stress control. Prevention of burnout and fostering resilience can be done through mental health services, peer support, and debriefing sessions. These challenges can be met to equip the nurses in healthcare institutions to handle the important emergencies thus enhancing the performance and patient’s life survival rate.
