Abstract

The main focus of this dissertation is the installation of solar panels at the Chókwè irrigation canal. This report contains an analysis of limitations in the design and selection of the concept and materials. The design process involved identifying and articulating the numerous constrains that need to be taken into consideration when developing a solar panel system able to meet a set of standards. The requirements include numerous elements like cost effectiveness, safety considerations, maintenance requirements, durability, water depth, potential shading, canal dimensions, and accessibility of space. It is the responsibility of designers to manage and bring together these constraints so that they can ensure that the system performs at its maximum. Engineers also play a vital role in the installation of solar panels to make sure that all the required precautions are considered and that the project meets all the sustainability and efficiency targets. Installation tools, including solar-specific tools, power tools, and hand tools, were discussed in detail. The dissertation highlights the importance of evaluating and preparing the site with elements like electrical compatibility, structural soundness, and solar exposure. It also goes deeper into safety guidelines to deal with the risk of operational hazards and electrical fire while also emphasising the importance of correct wiring and connections for efficient energy transfer. Moreover, the present study centres on assessing the market potential and coming up with and entry strategy for solar lids implemented in Sub-Saharan African countries’ irrigation canals. The main aim is to deal with the issue of the scarcity of water and spur the embracing of sustainable practices in agriculture. The dissertation suggests a market entry strategy that seeks local partnerships, educational campaigns, product demonstrations, government engagement, and market adaption. This report also goes deeper into an analysis of factors, including long-term sustainability, brand awareness, marketing channels, and target customer analysis. Mozambique’s Chókwè Irrigation Canal project is underscored by a wide-ranging cost-benefit analysis, highlighting its economic feasibility and the possible long-term benefits.
This paper aims to present a comprehensive overview of a solar panel design project, along with providing detailed instructions for engineers involved in the project. Additionally, strategies for effectively marketing these solar panels in the sub-Saharan African region will be discussed. This summary will elucidate the objectives and principles that this project endeavours to tackle. The objective of this initiative is to develop solar panels specifically tailored for irrigation channels and provide engineers with comprehensive installation guidelines. Furthermore, the intention is to promote this product to potential investors or any relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, this project facilitates the acquisition of crucial knowledge, particularly in the areas of recognising design limitations and selecting the suitable system and tools required by engineers during the installation process. In order to align with the environmental factors in sub-Saharan Africa, it is necessary to make deliberate decisions.
