Abstract

The most important investigative aim of this research focuses on the effectiveness and use of learning via mobile assisted language learning (MALL) in seeing how learners develop their language in learning vocabulary, and teaching them the vocabulary. This study and research relied on a mixed research methodology, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods. This study consisted of thirty student participants, all of whom were from the first and second levels of the English Language Department at Qassim University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They were tested before and after a vocabulary teaching session. Fifteen students were taught through a vocabulary teaching mobile app called Edmodo, while the other fifteen students were taught in the traditional way (printed worksheets), in order to determine the impact of mobile assisted language learning (MALL). The results of the research reveal that there is a difference between the participants who used the application and those using worksheets at both the first and second levels, as well as the participants demonstrating the extent of their desire to learn via mobile applications in the future, and the direction of education to learning via mobile telephones.
