Abstract
How identities are performed using language in an under researched context. The relationship between certain linguistic repertoires and identity enactments has shown how identities are performed. The intersectionality between different identities after moving from one place to another and how this effects identity. Evidence of the relationship between the construction of a professional identity inside a workplace and the use of the linguistic repertoires. Evidence of how language socialization take place as well as how language use influence identity performance and positioning.
Description
While migration is currently a global issue where there is a need to understand the relationship between language and identity for migrants. This study shows how respondents’ identities were examined and analyzed after migrating where data was collected and analyzed to generate recurrent themes among respondents which eventually led to evidence of how certain identities were negotiated, enacted and performed. The study has focused on the relationship between linguistics repertoires and performing identities.
