Abstract

This research provides new ideas and concepts about the standardised tests that need to be conducted in the Saudi Arabian school system in order to prepare students to reach higher levels of attainment. Therefore, it will support pupils to unleash their energy and critical and cognitive abilities. Based on the importance of assessment in the educational process, this research focuses on investigating the impact of standardised tests (Qiyas) on academic achievement and their success in preparing the high school students from two schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for admission to university. In view of the importance of introducing a new type of student assessment in Saudi schools, the change that occurred in the educational system was evaluated regarding this aspect. A questionnaire was conducted with six teachers and ten female high school students, and, according to the results, there are differing perspectives regarding the standardised test, with some believing it is effective and others believing it is not. Overall, it has been established that Scholastic Assessment Tests (SAT) are beneficial to the educational system because they strengthen students’ existing skills and talents, allowing them to work effectively and earn high grades. This research suggests focusing on the necessity to motivate teachers to train students to use the same standard test models. It may be effective to replace the SAT with a test such as the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress), which is designed to track student achievement and success during the school year.
