Abstract

The study examines how walkability in Riyadh's Al-Aqiq district affects social cohesion and the factors that promote it, including interactions and community engagement. Walkability conditions are assessed using the Pedestrian Environment Quality Index (PEQI). We present an analysis of the key challenges that hinder walkability in Riyadh along with a literature review on how walkability is associated with social cohesion in the city. As part of the study, we evaluated the walkability of streets as well as proposed improvements in their design. The findings of this study contribute to our understanding of the impact of walkability on social dynamics, which in turn provides insights into the planning and design strategies that can be used to promote vibrant communities.
