Quantitative Method for Attack Prediction In Smart Grid
Abstract
The smart grid will provide innovative ways to improve the efficiency of the
traditional grid. Because it is a power grid based on digital communications. It
is considered a technology full of weaknesses in terms of information security.
This is due to the lack of an industry standard for Operational Technology (OT)
of hardware components, compared to information Technology (IT) systems,
which makes it difficult to make patches or use network scanning tools to find
vulnerabilities in the system. This is because this procedure may cause an
unexpected reaction from equipment’s (such as the robotic arm colliding with
another, or the breakdown or explosion of a generator), which may cause huge
financial and human losses and stop in service for a long time. As a result, this
study provided solution for the network administrator with a tool that helps
them to know the extent of the damage of the attack that is predicted based on
the discovered vulnerabilities, so that the appropriate decision can be taken to
patch the vulnerability or leave it.
