The Role of Sustaiable Toursim Within Saudi Arabia Context

Abstract

This dissertation aims to critically evaluate and examine the growth of sustainable tourism in Saudi Arabia. The study on sustainable tourism practices can help the country and the tourism industry promote and preserve cultural assets.In the research, it is observed that Expo 2030 has a high potential to bring a revolution in tourism development in Saudi Arabia, which aligns with its strategic objective of diversifying the economy and elevating the status of the kingdom as a powerhouse of global tourism. Apart from that it can positively impact the sustainable development initiatives of the tourism sector because Saidi is committed to making the event the most sustainable World Expo in history so that net-positive environmental impacts can be achieved. The discussion part shows that the response of the participants shows there is no impact on the tourist regarding the matter of sustainability, but they are indirectly impacted by the sustainability of a certain place. The sustainable destinations are expected to draw tourists as these destinations are preserved. This destination would naturally have more economic contributions than others. The challenges of sustainable tourism that are faced in the global platforms are mainly the economic, social, environmental, and technological issues. The current initiatives that are taken by the government of Saudi Arabia are preserving historical places and encouraging eco-friendly stays for tourists. These have positive impacts on the economy of the country. Global tourism places face different challenges due to higher crowds’, excessive waste generation and landfills. Thus, tourist places must implement different strategies to improve sustainability and mitigate the cultural differences among the visitors. Significantly, the government also imposes rules and regulations and provides employment opportunities to the local communities to monitor the cleaning and improve sustainability.
