Abstract
Background: Moral distress, organizational betrayal, and professional identity
have a direct impact on nurses’ psychological well-being, and quality of care
provided. Limited studies have investigated the interaction between these
variables in the specific cultural and organizational context of Saudi Arabia.
Description
The current study utilized a descriptive correlational cross-sectional
design, a research approach that examined the relationships between variables
at a single point in time without manipulating any of the variables. A descriptive
correlational cross-sectional design was employed to explore relationships
between variables in a given population. In this design, data were collected from
participants to describe characteristics or conditions and to investigate potential
correlations among variables. By capturing data at one time, the study offered
a snapshot of patterns or correlations in the data, though it could not determine

causation. Descriptive correlational studies were particularly useful in fields
like healthcare, as they provided insights into complex relationships among
psychological, environmental, and professional factors affecting individuals in
real-world settings (Sharma, 2022).
Keywords
Moral distress, institutional betrayal, professional identity, nurses, Saudi Arabia.
