Implications of Artificial Intelligence on International Security
Abstract
We are currently living within a period known as digital society whereby every device has begun to be regarded as smart. The capabilities of self-learning and thinking have been introduced into these gadgets. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that has assimilated these features with the ability to perform activities that humans would not normally do. AI has found a number of applications and is currently being used in different fields. To enhance security, non-state actors, governments, state nations, and international bodies have adopted this technology in counterterrorism, military, defence and warfare. The capabilities of AI in these fields is beneficial and enhances security to some extent however there is a concern about the inherent risks and disadvantages that come with the technology. This study explores the implications of AI on international security with an aim shedding light on the areas that state nations and the international security community ought to consider to address and plan in light of the likely deleterious impacts of AI on international security and the human race in general.
