Abstract

Background: Burnout syndrome in critical care nursing is characterised by emotional and physical tiredness, unhappiness at work, decreased efficiency and feelings of alienation from colleagues. Nurses are the professionals who are on the frontline when it comes to patient care; thus, they have a direct influence on the quality of care the patient receives as well as general satisfaction. The work of critical care nurses is more complicated than other generalized nurses, and therefore involves a lot of pressure. Critical care nurses in Saudi Arabia are exposed to such circumstances which cause them to experience burnout. As a result, an inquiry concerning the satisfaction and well- being of critical care nurses in the Saudi Arabia becomes very important. Objective: to examine the relationship between burnout and job satisfaction among critical care nurses in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Methods: the study was correlational. Participants were recruited through an online anonymous survey. In total, 138 critical care nurses participated, and data was collected using a structured questionnaire. Analysis was done using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis Results: the study found that critical care nurses experience moderate burnout. Also, it was found that emotional exhaustion has a negative and moderate relationship with job satisfaction (r = -0.385, p =0.000). Similarly, depersonalisation has a negative and moderate relationship with job satisfaction (r = -0.464, p =0.000). Personal accomplishment is strongly linked to job satisfaction (r = 0.678, p =0.000). Conclusions: Health care facilities may obtain considerable benefits through the execution of policies that encourage the satisfaction of ICU nurses. Early detection and minimising burnout causes could foster greater efficiency, enforce changes in health facility structures, and promote quality care delivery.
