This research investigates how Saudi residents perceive the importance of sustainability in the tourism sector and whether these perceptions influence their choices when selecting tourism-related services. As part of the country’s Vision 2030 plan, Saudi Arabia is working to grow its tourism industry while protecting natural resources and cultural heritage. Using a structured, quantitative survey distributed in Riyadh, 84 responses were collected from adults aged 18 and above. The questionnaire explored participants’ awareness, perceived importance, and behaviors related to sustainability, as well as their views on the alignment of tourism practices with Vision 2030. Findings revealed that 56% of respondents considered themselves either “aware” or “very aware” of sustainability in tourism, and 84.5% believed it was “very important.” However, only 3.6% had actively avoided unsustainable tourism services, showing a gap between belief and action. While 61.9% said sustainability influenced their choices, many were still guided by convenience or cost. Additionally, 58.3% of participants felt tourism practices aligned with Vision 2030, while 38.1% expressed partial confidence. The study concludes that although attitudes are largely positive, practical behavior change remains limited. Clearer communication, better visibility of sustainable options, and public engagement are recommended to bridge the gap and strengthen sustainability outcomes in Saudi tourism.
