Abstract
The fast move to remote working, expedited by the COVID-19 pandemic, has dramatically
increased cybersecurity threats, especially in the Gulf region's increasingly digitalising
environment. This research investigates the specific challenges remote workers face in
Gulf countries, focussing on cybersecurity vulnerabilities associated with the use of
Internet of Things (IoT) devices in home workplaces. Through a comprehensive study,
including a survey of remote workers across the Gulf region, this research identifies
critical gaps in cybersecurity awareness and practices. The findings underscore the need
for enhanced security measures and targeted training programs to mitigate these risks.
In response, a cybersecurity training website was developed, designed to meet the
specific needs of remote workers in this region. The website provides interactive modules,
lessons, and resources designed to improve cybersecurity practices. This research
focuses on the cybersecurity challenges of remote work in the Gulf Countries, providing
practical ways for increasing security awareness and protecting both organisational
assets and personal data.
