Abstract

This study assessed the impact of cardiovascular risks factors in arterial wall stiffness by using Ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE). Supersonic SWE was used to Measuring the impact of cardiovascular risks factors in arterial wall stiffness data and quantify Young’s modulus in brachial and carotid arteries . Data were acquired from two groups, the first group were the healthy, the second group was patients with cardiovascular risk factors.for every subject three repeat measurements were taken to minimize the error .our result showed The stiffness of the carotid artery wall was significantly higher in-patient group compared to healthy subjects (Z=-2.5, p=0.01). The median of the SWE measurement were 23.5 kPa and 30 kPa in healthy subjects and patient with cardiovascular diseases, respectively. No remarkable in stiffness of brachial artery between the two groups (p=0.07). Our findings indicate that SWE can quantify the impact of the CVD on arterial wall stiffness, and the peripheral arteries are more stiffer than central artery, but they are less affected by risk factors.
