Item Restricted Comprehensive Creative Technologies Project: GraffAR: The Future of Graffiti(University of the West of England, 2024-04-18) alzahrani, yazeed ahmed; blaise, charlieConsider a world in which graffiti is more than just paint on a wall; it is a multifaceted experience that mixes physical and digital arts. This is the purpose of GraffAR, a new smartphone programme that enables users to create their own AR graffiti. GraffAR is meant for all users, not just technical pros. The software was designed with user experience in mind, with Unity serving as its technology foundation and Figma providing a user-friendly interface. This project investigates more than just the app itself. We'll look at GraffAR's technical features, its ability to shift public perceptions of graffiti, and the broader implications for education, community participation, and the future of AR technology.33 0Item Restricted Investigating the Effects of Augmented Reality and Interactive Technologies on Learning and Engagement in Preschool Education(University of Dayton, 2024-05-03) Alnfisah, Moneera; Adams, ShaunaIn this qualitative study, we examined the effects of augmented reality (AR) and physical-digital interaction in educational applications on preschoolers' engagement, skill development, and collaborative learning in the classroom. Drawing on Creswell's (2018) systematic method, the research design included immersive participant observation and semi-structured interviews to document the lived experiences of young learners using the Osmo Genius Kit. The study, conducted across three varied preschool classrooms affiliated with a Midwestern university, included a representative sample of children aged 3 to 5 years, allowing for a thorough examination of AR's complex influence in early childhood education. This methodology allows us to address the research questions and gain a thorough grasp of how AR technology can be used to improve education in preschool settings.46 0Item Restricted The efficacy of dmrFABP5 on suppressing the malignant progression of prostate cancer cells either singly or in combination with drugs in use and relevant molecular mechanisms(Saudi Digital Library, 2023-02-28) Abdulsamad, Saud; Ke, YouqiangStandard prostate cancer (PCa) treatment options, including chemotherapy and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with drugs like docetaxel and enzalutamide, eventually become ineffective, necessitating the exploration of new therapeutic strategies, such as the recently proposed Anti-FABP5 therapy with its bio-inhibitor dmrFABP5. This study is aimed to assess the synergistic effects of combining dmrFABP5 with either docetaxel or enzalutamide in experimental PCa treatment. We found that the treatment of dmrFABP5 combined with docetaxel in androgen-independent Du145 and androgen-responsive 22RV1 cells exhibited a synergistic effect as determined by the Combination Index (CI) assessed with CompuSyn software and resulted in a significant reduction in the malignant characteristics of the cells. The treatment of 22RV1 cells with dmrFABP5 combined with enzalutamide produced a synergistic suppression effect on the malignant characteristics of the cells. To study the molecular mechanisms behind the synergistic interactions, we investigated the changes in expression levels of a number of proteins related to FABP5-initiated signal transduction pathways and those related to tumorigenicity, apoptosis, and angiogenesis in DU145 and 22RV1 cells. The results showed that the combination treatment of dmrFABP5 with docetaxel promoted apoptosis with disrupted some apoptosis factors, decreased angiogenesis factor, suppressed fatty acid receptor and reduced the level of Sp1. In 22RV1 cells, apart from similar aforementioned enhancement effect, a synergistic suppression on the expression of AR and AR-V7 was also observed. Furthermore, the combination of dmrFABP5 with enzalutamide significantly suppressed not only the same pathways, except apoptosis, as those in 22RV1 cells, but also the expression of AR and AR-V7. RNA profiling of DU145 treated with dmrFABP5 revealed the most enriched pathways and differential gene expression, providing insight into the underlying mechanisms of dmrFABP5 action. These findings provided a theoretical basis for a therapy to combine dmrFABP5 with either docetaxel or enzalutamide as a treatment strategy for prostate cancer.10 0Item Restricted Evaluating 4D Multiuser Construction Plan Reviews Using Augmented Reality(The Pennsylvania State University, 2023-08) Alghamdi, Saleh; Messner, JohnConstruction plan review meetings are valuable for stakeholders to discuss construction logistics and sequencing issues. Visualization is essential during these meetings and can significantly influence the outcomes. Construction plans can be visualized in 2D, 3D, or 4D environments where the time dimension is integrated with the 3D model elements. Means of visualization media differ and can take many forms, such as paper-based, screen-based, or immersive technologies. Immersive technologies add another level of interactivity that has yet to be thoroughly investigated in construction research. Collaboration is integral to construction plan review meetings, but limited research has focused on collaborative plan reviews that leverage immersive technologies such as visualization mediums. This research investigates the effects of immersive, multi-user Augmented Reality (AR) to support construction plan review meetings using 4D construction models. The study compares head-mounted AR to traditional screen-based 4D model reviews. A 4D Multiuser AR (4DMAR) application was developed to measure the effectiveness of AR as a review environment. A questionnaire was used to measure the participants’ overall experience and their preferences, along with observational data. Participants found the interaction in both environments easy while also perceiving that AR provided more options for interactivity. Participants also perceived the 4DMAR environment as more suitable for collaboratively reviewing 4D construction plans. Limitations included the limited scope of the 4D model and the selected sample's low experience level with AR and 4D modeling. Future work should consider adding more interactive features within AR applications and identify better methods to support the interoperability between 4D modeling software and AR platforms.9 0
