Using Smart Hotel Operations to Improve Guest Experience: A Systematic Review
(Saudi Digital Library, 2025) Mohsen, Abdulrahman Abdullah S; Coll, Patricia
Over the last few years, the integration of smart technologies in the hospitality industry has significantly increased. This has led to the emergence of a novel concept called “Smart Hotels”. Smart hotels exclusively operate using advanced technologies, offering an innovative approach towards the guests’ experience. This study aims to explore the concept of smart hotels and their impact on guest experiences. A systematic review approach was undertaken by searching relevant secondary sources that appeared in five electronic engines: ProQuest, ScienceDirect, EBSCOhost, Google Scholar and Scopus. The inclusion criteria were restricted to English-written publications starting from the year 2018 onwards. Based on a synthesis and review of 17 studies related to the purpose of this study, the findings indicated that smart technologies can significantly enhance guest experience through providing efficient, more personalised and convenient services. Despite guests’ appreciation of these technological benefits, the findings also revealed some concerns related to guests’ privacy, cybersecurity and minimal interactions with human staff. Suggestions of further research referred to the importance of investigating the human-AI collaboration dynamic and how hotels can maintain a balance between automation and human intervention.

Exploring the Impact of Visual Data Analysis on Digital Transformation Initiatives: A Case Study in Saudi Arabia's Oil Market
(Birkbeck University of London, 2024) AlHumaidy, Hessa; Alsurmi, Abdulrahman
This study aims to investigate the role and impact of data visualisation tools, with a specific focus on Power BI, in studying market forces and developments within Saudi Arabia's oil industry. The research aims to examine how insights derived from such visual analysis can inform and augment strategic decision-making processes for organizations experiencing digital transformation efforts. By focusing on Power BI, this study aims to show how efficiently this tool can be utilized to bridge the gap between raw data and actionable insights, eventually driving more informed and efficient decisions in the oil industry. Pragmatism has been selected to be the research methodology for this study. It is an approach that focuses more on pragmatic solutions and outcomes, which directly lines up with the objective of data analysis and visualisation on Saudi oil sector trends by Power BI. This research study focuses on the application of a quantitative approach as the basis for exploratory research on the role played by data visualisation tools in the analysis of market forces and trends within the oil industry in Saudi Arabia. This study determines that Power BI is an indispensable tool for organizations in Saudi Arabia's oil industry, particularly in the context of digital transformation. The research establishes that Power BI’s ability to provide real-time, actionable insights from complex datasets not only enhances strategic decision-making but also supports the broader objectives of economic diversification and sustainability. By leveraging data visualisation techniques, organizations can navigate the complexities of the global energy market, optimize their operations, and make informed decisions that drive long-term success.

The impact of digital transformation on the unemployment rate of women by region in Saudi Arabia
(Swansea University, 2024-09) Alqahtani, Dalal Yahya; Asproudis, Ilias
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the digital transformation program within the 2030 vision. It also aimed through the vision to empower women and reduce the unemployment rate. This study aims to test the impact of digital transformation on the female unemployment rate in the different regions of Saudi Arabia. To achieve this, panel data for the variables of the Kingdom's regions were used from 2016 to 2023. The internet penetration rate, the mobile cellular subscription rate, and the percentage of computers, communications, and other services from commercial imports were relied upon as measures of digitization. The study assumes the existence of an inverse relationship between digitization variables and the unemployment rate of women in the regions of the KSA. By estimating the model using the Robust least squares method and then conducting the Granger causality test, the research concluded that the effect of the digitization variables on the rate of Saudi women varied. The research found that the internet penetration rate does not statistically affect the unemployment rate for women in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, increasing the mobile cellular subscription rate leads to an increase in the female unemployment rate. The results showed an inverse effect of commercial imports of computers, communications, and other services on the unemployment rate for women in Saudi Arabia. The results also showed a significant negative relationship between unemployment and inflation rates, education rates, and trade openness. The causality test results showed a relationship runs from the digitization variables to the female unemployment rate and a bidirectional causal relationship between the unemployment rate and the education rate. The results indicate that some other economic factors and variables explain the change in the female unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia. This indicates the importance of expanding efforts to educate and train women on the productive use of digital technology to maximize the benefits of digital transformation.
