Item Restricted Vitamin D Deficiency among Saudi Cardiovascular Disease Patients in King Fahad University Hospital (2013-2018), Dammam, Saudi Arabia(Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, 2019) Al-Ghamdi, Salem Jabbar Hamdan; Eltigani, Osman Musa Omer"Background and Objectives: Vitamin D deficiency has far reaching impact on several metabolic functions including cardiovascular health. This study aimed to test the association of serum 25 [OH]-Vitamin D3 levels among cardiovascular disease (i.e., hypertension and ischemic heart disease), patients. Methods: This study was conducted retrospectively in a single center. The study population included all subjects who had visited any of the out-patient clinics or as in-patients in KFUH, Al-Khobar City, during 2013–2018 (n=360). Data were collected from the medical records and were statistically analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Results: Approximately 40.6% and 27.8% of study participants had vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency, respectively. After adjustment of covariates, vitamin D deficiency was associated with ischemic heart disease (OR 2.24, 95% CI 1.11-4.52), and blood triglyceride level (OR 2.27, 95% CI 1.22-4.22). Conclusions: Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency are associated with ischemic heart disease, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia. There is need for screening of cardiovascular disease patients for vitamin D level. "6 0
