Abstract
ABSTRACT The government of Saudi Arabia has developed numerous strategies and programs to eradicate the issue of drug addiction. As such, the ‘Aftercare Program’ is one of the initiatives formulated by Saudi Arabia as an effort to rehabilitate the drug abusers. Since the establishment of the Aftercare Program, the effectiveness still remained unknown. It is imperative to measure the effectiveness of such programs for further improvisation. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the Aftercare Program at Al-Amal Complex by using CIPP Model with a view of raising the performance and the effectiveness of the Aftercare Program that is offered to drug abusers. This study used a quantitative survey method as a research design. As such, a set of questionnaires were developed based on CIPP model comprising of 104 items for social workers and drug abusers. Two Al-Amal complexes in Saudi Arabia were selected in this study: Al-Amal Complex in Jeddah and Al-Amal Complex in Riyadh. A total sample of 87 social workers and 147 drug abusers were recruited in this study. The data was analyzed by using Pearson correlations and multiple linear regressions through SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software, IBM SPSS version 25. The results found that the majority of the social workers and drug abusers in both Al-Amal complexes perceived that the Aftercare Program was effective in helping the treatment of drug addiction. In addition, the study revealed that there were no significant differences in terms of Input, Process and Product of Aftercare Program among social workers and drug abusers in both Al-Amal complexes. Moreover, the results showed that there was a positive correlation between the three dimensions of Context, Input, and Process with the fourth dimension of Product in the Aftercare Program. Furthermore, the regression analyses indicated that the dimension of Process in the Aftercare Program (implementation) is the most effective dimension on the Product (outputs) in both Al-Amal complexes. It was anticipated that findings generated in this study would provide significant inputs in terms of improvisation of Aftercare Program as well as provide baseline data for upcoming studies related to drug abuse in Saudi Arabia.
