The research aims to address key challenges in the sector, explore global best practices, and propose strategies to enhance Saudi Arabia’s competitiveness as a global logistics hub. The study begins by contextualising the historical and strategic importance of Saudi Arabia's land transport infrastructure, emphasising its role in economic diversification and global connectivity. Informed by a literature review, the research identifies critical programmes under Vision 2030, such as the National Industrial Development and Logistics Programme (NIDLP), which focuses on modernising infrastructure and integrating advanced technologies to foster sustainable growth. The methodological approach leverages several analytical tools—Porter's Five Forces, PESTEL analysis, SWOT, and the TOWS matrix—to assess both external and internal factors affecting the land transport sector. This multi-faceted analysis leads to the identification of 24 strategic objectives, which are prioritised using a Decision Matrix to align with Vision 2030's direct and indirect goals. These objectives are categorised into themes such as technological innovation and modernisation, sustainability and environmental challenges, and public-private partnerships. The discussion highlights key findings, such as the importance of integrating advanced technologies, fostering public-private partnerships, and improving multimodal transport solutions. The adoption of digital platforms, the use of innovative safety measures, and the implementation of sustainable practices are highlighted as critical factors in ensuring the sector's long-term growth and resilience. Furthermore, the dissertation identifies challenges such as regulatory barriers, high costs, and the need for continuous technological upgrades. In conclusion, the research underscores the strategic importance of the land transport sector in achieving Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The recommended strategies, including increased investments in infrastructure, enhanced governance frameworks, and the adoption of global best practices, are essential for transforming Saudi Arabia into a global logistics hub. The findings and recommendations provide a roadmap for policymakers and stakeholders to implement a well-aligned, future-ready transport system, driving economic diversification and sustainability.14 0Item Restricted Navigating National Transformation: The role of project managers in strategy implementation within the context of Saudi Vision 2030(University Collage London, 2024-01) Ababtain, Jori; Vernet, AntoineProject management is critical in attaining an organization’s goals and objectives. Its significant role requires project managers to implement processes that align with the organization’s business strategy. However, it is common for projects to fail due to misalignment between project management and strategy management. This study was conducted to examine the crucial role of project management in progressive and ambitious business practices, especially in the case of giga-projects. The research outlined Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 giga-project, exploring the importance of project managers and alignment between Project Management Offices (PMOs) and Strategy Management Offices (SMOs) for a successful project.14 0Item Restricted THE CONTRIBUTION OF COUNCIL MEMBERS TO THE GOVERNANCE PROCESS OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN SAUDI ARABIA: A CASE STUDY ANALYSIS(University of Reading, 2024-07-24) Alnajran, Saqer; Kakabadse, AndrewThis qualitative research was undertaken through a case study to explore the contribution of council members of King Saud University (KSU) to their institutional strategy. It is the first study to consider the impact of governing body members of higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia. The study involved conducting 26 elite interviews with KSU council members and collecting 9 relevant documents. Through thematic analysis, the study elucidated how board members fulfill their responsibilities in alignment with KSU's strategic plan. Firstly, board members were identified as holding official positions that require role-based contribution and accountability. Secondly, the effective contribution of board members was facilitated by the use of technology through the KSU’s board portal Majales. Thirdly, the engagement of KSU council members at various decision-making levels, including the college council or equivalent level, in addition to the university council level, was found to positively influence the institutional strategy. Fourthly, the crucial role of the KSU president in enhancing collaborative efforts between the board and the institution to achieve strategic objectives was highlighted. Lastly, the efforts of KSU council members in developing new regulations and enforcing implementation compliance were essential in reflecting their contribution to realizing the objectives of KSU’s strategic plan. The study concludes by proposing a model that outlines the process through which board members contribute to their institutional strategy. The model emphasizes the importance of employing a distributed system of specialized experts in their respective roles to make an effective contribution. Additionally, it underscores the involvement of board directors in discussions at multiple levels within the institution contributing to the improvement of decision-making processes across the governance system. Furthermore, the model not only advances the understanding of governance and strategic dynamics within KSU but also provides valuable insights with broader applicability to higher education institutions.42 0Item Restricted Beyond the pain: A creative strategy to raise awareness about migraine disorder affecting Saudi professional women in the creative industry.(Univeristy of the arts london, 2024-02-16) Mashhor, Khaldah; Martin, MichaelMigraines are a neurological disorder affecting over a billion individuals globally (World Health Organization, 2016). They are more commonly found among young women than men due to the hormonal changes they undergo as they grow up (Wilhour, 2023). In Saudi Arabia, many individuals are diagnosed with migraine disorder compared to the global average (Albalawi et al., 2023). Despite the concerning findings and the high numbers of affected people, Saudi Arabia's acknowledgement of the disorder is considered low compared to other Western countries (Syed et al.,2020). Therefore, a gap between the prevalence of migraines and the level of public understanding within Saudi Arabia was discovered. Many people recognise migraines as ' just a headache' however, they cause debilitating pain, which can be described as a "throbbing and pulsing headache" (Cleveland Clinic,2021), usually affecting one side of the head. It disturbs someone's quality of life, leading them to endure more than mere pain. Migraines often strike young women during their peak years of professional productivity (Cimons, 2018), creating a dual challenge as they grapple with their condition while also meeting the demands of their careers. Saudi Arabia's flourishing creative industry is increasingly drawing in young, determined women, among whom are many managing the added complexity of living with migraines. These women frequently encounter daily factors like extensive technology usage and external environmental triggers in their workspace that affect their condition (Luccheetti, 2023), often compelling them to withdraw to a place of comfort to relieve their pain. Understanding and empathy are what those women seek from their surroundings, particularly from their work colleagues with whom they spend 8 hours a day, 5 times a week. During the research journey, key insights and findings were the stepping stones that determined what to focus on in producing the final outcome. Leading to the employment of a creative framework to fill in the found gaps. Therefore, The Double Diamond by IDEO (Design Council, 2023), known for its user-centric approach, was used as a guiding structure for this project. By prioritising the affected women, the methodology focused on understanding their needs and challenges by following its directing stages. Alongside that is the theory of change model, which this project leveraged its planning steps to reach an outcome that initiates a desired social and behavioural change. As a result, a tailored, creative, and strategic intervention has been crafted to enhance awareness of migraine disorders among professional creatives surrounding young women affected by migraines in the Saudi creative sector. While acknowledging that meaningful change takes time, this comprehensive strategy is planned over a four-year timeline. The output marks the implementation of the initial phase in the first year of this strategy, which consists of a digital social media awareness campaign. The visuals, content, and videos were crafted collaboratively, where the main stakeholder took part in creating the visuals. By doing so, the project encourages these women to share their voices to be heard and bring awareness to their colleagues. While the nature of the outcome might be challenging to measure due to the project's time restrictions, the desired effect this project aims to achieve would be raising awareness through a dedicated Instagram account. This digital platform bridges the communication of the awareness campaign and extends its reach to the Saudi creative industry as a whole. Another thing this project aims to achieve is to diminish the stigma surrounding the disorder, leading to the establishment of supportive and understanding working environments. Reflecting on this project's journey, launching the awareness initiative is not just about disseminating information; it is a heartfelt movement towards fostering empathy within a society that does not fully grasp the debilitating nature of migraines. The future of this dedicated account would be a potential start to address other unspoken disorders and shed light on those whom our Saudi society must acknowledge.33 0Item Restricted The Implementation Challenges Facing the National Strategies of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030(Saudi Digital Library, 2023-12-01) Abahussein, Seba; Denicol, JulianoThis study investigates the challenges of implementing the national strategies of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 vision and proposes solutions to resolve or overcome these issues.
